getaway house ::
The site's natural surroundings served as inspiration for the building's design and general material selection. In order to keep an elementary colour scheme and emphasise the vivid hues of the site's native flora, neutral interior finishes are used. The simple and rudimentary palette of wood, metal and concrete is applied to the exterior and interior. Window openings are positioned to maximise natural daylighting.
The exterior finished in cedar will develop a silvery patina, blurring the boundaries between the residence and the surrounding mature tree growth. The getaway house celebrates contemporary architectural forms and detail without abridging the basic pleasures of cottage life.
Subsumed beneath a desire to create an elegant retreat, its architecture encapsulates all of the living experience that draws on the delights of recharging and relaxing in the countryside.
